B-Salicornia is a food supplement based on European Salicornia extract, vitamins of the B family such as B9 (folic acid), indicated to foster normal homocysteine metabolism.

B-Salicornia helps to regulate homocysteine, which is particularly elevated in vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, stroke, atrial fibrillation and chronic renal failure [Yuan D et al. Front Cardiovasc Med] and also in dementia [Luzzi S, et al. Biomedicines].

Salicornia is a halophyte plant, tolerant to water salinity, which grows in salt marshes and its way of defending itself against these adverse stress conditions (seawater salinity, UV rays, etc.) is by producing large quantities of polyphenols.

Polyphenols provide this plant with a great number of health benefits.

Composition

European Salicornia extract. B vitamins, including B2, B6, B9 (folic acid) and B12. 30 capsules.

Benefits

  • Regulates natural homocysteine metabolism.
  • Normal nervous system function.
  • Maintenance of optimal psychological function.
  • Normal protein and glycogen metabolism.
  • Normal amino acid synthesis.
  • Protection of cells against oxidative damage.
  • Polyphenols that help to complete the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables.
  • Folic acid is useful in the prevention of stroke [An P et al. J Am Coll Cardiol]..
  • Control of obesity through its anti-adipogenic properties [Rahman MM et al. Pharm Biol] [Chrigui S et al. Foods].

Recommendations for use

B-Salicornia is recommended for adults at a dose of one capsule every 24 hours (500mg of Salicornia extract per day).

We recommend taking it every morning with breakfast.

Preservation

Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight.

Studies

An extensive analysis of 883,627 patients has recently shown that folic acid administration is useful in the prevention of stroke [An P et al. J Am Coll Cardiol].

Salicornia extract is acknowledged to be rich in polyphenols [Kim S et al. Molecules] [Nájar AM et al. Nutrients] including phenolic acids, including caffeic, coumaric, veratric, salicylic, transcinnamic, chlorogenic, ferulic and tungtungmaic acids.

It is rich in flavonoids such as kaempferol/luteolin, quercetin-3-O-rutoside-apigenin, 7-glucoside and pelargonidin-3-O-rutoside. Its fatty acid profile contains palmitic, oleic and linoleic acids in high concentrations.

In research carried out in Spanish hospitals, with which we have collaborated, it was shown that in healthy adults, consumption of salicornia extract for 3 months is associated with very significant reductions in blood homocysteine, tendencies towards normalisation of lipids and could also have a diuretic effect.

Several clinical studies are currently underway to evaluate the vascular protection of salicornia extract in different Spanish hospitals and primary care health centres. In animals predisposed to hypertension, high intake of common salt significantly increased systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressure, but Salicornia extract intake was associated with significantly lower mean blood pressure and did not induce vascular dysfunction [Panth N et al. Int J Mol Sci].

Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of European Salicornia has been associated with obesity control through its anti-adipogenic properties, producing weight reduction in rats in the high-fat diet-induced obesity control group [Rahman MM et al. Pharm Biol].
