Marine seasoning: The seasoning in sachets for your soups and broths.

At Marisma Biomed we have developed a drying and grinding system for Salicornia that allows many of its healthy components to remain active.

To produce our Marine Seasoning, we keep ground salicornia grains and dried twigs that, when infused, release all the minerals and polyphenols of the plant into the cooking water of your broths, soups or other dishes.

With this seasoning you get a salty flavour, without needing to add table salt to your dishes, with a high content of potassium, calcium and iodine, and with much less sodium than table salt. This gives the Marine Seasoning a very healthy and interesting profile for people who cannot consume salt or who simply want to eat healthier.

Apart from the salty flavour, our Marine Seasoning releases vegetal aromas reminiscent of the marsh and gives very special marine touches to your kitchen.

Studies

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched an initiative to reduce salt consumption and recommends no more than five grams per adult per day. However, the majority of the population consumes twice this amount.

The WHO advises that adults should not exceed two grams of sodium per day (equivalent to five grams of salt), but most people consume an average of nine to twelve grams of salt daily. "It is estimated that 2.5 million deaths could be prevented each year if global salt intake were reduced to the recommended level," states the health agency, which aims to reduce global salt consumption by 30% by 2025.

In experimental models and in humans, consumption of salicornia plant salt has been shown to reduce blood pressure.

Research has been conducted on the incorporation of Salicornia salt in various food matrices. By replacing 1% NaCl with an equal amount of Salicornia perennis, a 70% reduction in sodium content can be achieved, significantly contributing to lowering the total salt content in the diet [Clavel-Coibrié E et al. Foods] [Sood S et al. Food Chem].

A pilot clinical trial in Portugal with young, healthy individuals demonstrated that replacing table salt with salicornia vegetable salt led to a reduction in sodium excretion in the intervention group. This was followed by a significant reduction in brachial and aortic systolic and diastolic blood pressure [Pereira T, et al. Foods].
