The healthy vegetable substitute for table salt.

The salicornia powder, capturing the essence of salt marsh and coastal areas, is obtained using sustainable drying and milling methods developed by Marisma Biomed, which allow us to produce a delicious vegetable salt while maintaining the plant's healthy components active.

In addition to salting your dishes, it is low in fat and sugars, and high in fibre, protein, calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Its mineral composition, with a lower sodium content than common salt and a higher potassium and magnesium content, helps to avoid the adverse effects of excess salt consumption on health (hypertension, cardiovascular diseases). It also provides polyphenols and polyunsaturated fatty acids to the foods in which it is added (bread, gazpacho, etc.).

Composition

European Salicornia powder, which comes from the natural park of the Bay of Cadiz and from plantations in the marshes of Isla Cristina and the Algarve.

Salicornia powder has no additives, preservatives or colourings, it is purely salicornia.

Studies

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched an initiative to reduce salt consumption and recommends no more than five grams per adult per day. However, the majority of the population consumes twice this amount.

The WHO advises that adults should not exceed two grams of sodium per day (equivalent to five grams of salt), but most people consume an average of nine to twelve grams of salt daily. "It is estimated that 2.5 million deaths could be prevented each year if global salt intake were reduced to the recommended level," states the health agency, which aims to reduce global salt consumption by 30% by 2025.

In experimental models and in humans, consumption of salicornia plant salt has been shown to reduce blood pressure.

Research has been conducted on the incorporation of Salicornia salt in various food matrices. By replacing 1% NaCl with an equal amount of Salicornia perennis, a 70% reduction in sodium content can be achieved, significantly contributing to lowering the total salt content in the diet [Clavel-Coibrié E et al. Foods] [Sood S et al. Food Chem].

A pilot clinical trial in Portugal with young, healthy individuals demonstrated that replacing table salt with salicornia vegetable salt led to a reduction in sodium excretion in the intervention group. This was followed by a significant reduction in brachial and aortic systolic and diastolic blood pressure [Pereira T, et al. Foods].
